Kathleen L'Hommedieu

Connecticut-native artist Kathleen L’Hommedieu brings her travels through Ireland and Cornwall to life in a series inspired by sheep, green fields, colorful barns, and dramatic Celtic skies. Her work celebrates the beauty of place, the comfort of belonging, and the joy of finding your flock. Kathleen’s work also appears in our seasonal postcard series, with custom commissions created for Study Hotels.

"This series was inspired by my time in the Celtic Isles. The local farms became special places where I could find comfort and share my thoughts. Walking past the farms each day, I would be greeted by sheep, like old friends, which brought me a sense of joy and belonging. This experience deepened my appreciation for farm life, the simple joy of feeding lambs, and the calmness of being in nature. Through my art, I hope to share this beauty with others and inspire a sense of peace and connection to the world around us."

About the Artist

Kathy L'Hommedieu discovered painting after a friend gifted her art lessons. What began with skepticism became a new way of seeing the world—a perspective that continues to shape her work today.

Her recurring "sheep series" traces back to childhood afternoons near a sheep farm and was later inspired by travels through Ireland and Cornwall, where green fields, dramatic skies, and grazing sheep sparked a renewed fascination with the landscape.

As a teacher, L'Hommedieu encourages her students to take risks, embrace imperfection, and “just jump”—an approach that carries into her own practice. Her advice to emerging artists is simple: play, keep painting, and have fun.
