Visit the Aisling Gallery this season to experience Light & Stone, an exhibition honoring the 20-year collaboration between sculptor Darrell Petit and photographer Sean Kernan. The exhibition of photography and sculpture invites viewers to pause, look closely, and consider how creativity itself takes shape—through patience, perspective, and the meeting of minds.

Artists Darrell Petit and Sean Kernan will be in attendance to discuss their work and sign copies of Kernan’s book, Darrell Petit in Stone. This event is free and open to the public, with light refreshments provided. Books will be available for purchase in the Living Room.

About the Artists

Darrell Petit

Darrell Petit works with granite from Connecticut’s historic Stony Creek Quarry, transforming massive forms into works of quiet power and precision. His sculptures appear in collections and public spaces around the world, including Storm King Art Center in New York, Aswan in Egypt, and the Chubu Cultural Center and Museum in Japan. He lives and works in Stony Creek, CT, and serves as a visiting lecturer at Yale University.

Sean Kernan

Sean Kernan is an internationally recognized writer, photographer, and filmmaker whose work has been exhibited in galleries and museums across the globe. His collaborations span photography, performance, and film—including projects with Alison Chase at MASS MoCA, Guggenheim Projects in New York, and the Portland Performing Arts Festival. His decades-long study of Petit’s work culminated in the documentary Standing Stones and the recently released Darrell Petit in Stone (2024).

The Aisling Gallery at The Study at Yale

The hotel's first-floor exhibit space features works by local artists and students from the Yale School of Art, showcasing the creativity that defines New Haven’s vibrant arts community.
